Project Overview

The Martha Chase: Progressive Kindness exhibit at the Berry Arts Museum needs a brochure. The brochure needs to showcase a map with all of the exhibit’s dolls laid out. Furthermore, the exhibit needs a poster that fits onto the brochure.

Research

01.Exhibit Visit

I began my research by visiting the Martha Chase exhibition at the Barry Arts Museum. During my time there, I decided to take photos of the exhibit and sketch out a map of where everything was inside of the exhibit. I also took my time to take in the exhibit and learn the history of the place.

02. Martha Chase Foundation

After my analysis, I came up with a few feature ideas that focused on connecting users, adding a social aspect to music streaming. The Feature that I came up with was seeing your friends and other people who are listening to the same song as you. Furthermore, they would be able to leave comments on the videos

Designing the Brochure

01.Wordmark

For the logo, I decided to try and mimic the retro 50’s logo with the house and shapes and color palette. However, after review, I saw that it didn’t match the feeling of the exhibit and that it was to playful, while it exhibit had a more serious and elegant feeling. As a result, I went to a hand drawing the logo and made it more organic and reminisce of the victorian age.

02. Map

As stated in my research, when I went to the exhibit, I mapped out the entire room and labeled each part with the exhibit name. Furthermore, created a document with the name and creator of all of the dolls. After vectorizing the map in illustrator, I then went to InDesign to organize all of the dolls and creators.

My idea for the brochure was to make it a tri-fold and have it open like you were opening a doll house. At first, I was going to mimic the dollhouse in the exhibit, but after some critique, found that I should avoid using the actual pieces in the exhibit. I kept the idea of the dollhouse and decided to look at a reference for a Victorian age doll house.

Takeaway

One of the main things that I was able to improve on is finding ways to fit a lot of information in a small space. Furthermore, I was able to improve my knowledge of hierarchy with all of the listed art pieces. Furthermore, I improved my skills in Adobe Illustrator putting things together and drawing on the computer
